Will you benefit from an increase in free childcare?

by Gemma Melling

If you are a parent of a three or four year old, there’s good news – all children of this age are currently entitled to 15 hours of free childcare each week. And from September 2017, working parents may be entitled to even more hours of free childcare.

How much free childcare am I eligible for?

If you are eligible, you can take up to 1,140 hours flexibly throughout the year, in a school, academy or with a registered childcare provider, including childminders. The hours can also be split across more than one childcare provider.

Taken during term time only, you can take 30 hours a week, or if ‘stretched’ across the year, up to 23 hours can be taken across 50 weeks of the year.

If you need more childcare, any additional hours can be purchased from the provider. There may be other additional charges such as for meals, snacks or additional services.

And with all Knowsley’s private and voluntary full daycare nurseries currently rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted, if its a nursery setting you’re looking for, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
