Forest elf Oaksy – coming to a park near you

by Cathy Sheel

You may have heard of the ‘elf on the shelf’ causing havoc in people’s homes, now Knowsley has it’s very own elf in the forest.

Forest elf Oaksy was ‘born’ on an oak tree in Acornfield Plantation – Spinney Woods – in Kirkby and he’ll be making an appearance at a number of parks across Knowsley in the lead up to Christmas.

During his visits he’ll be finding out about what’s on offer at parks and posting daily updates on Knowsley Parks social media accounts.

To get involved, follow him on his journey from 1 December on Twitter @KnowsleyParks  or Facebook KnowsleyParks, and see if you can guess where he is by looking at the photographs in each location in Knowsley every day until Christmas Eve.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities, said: “As we all know this has been a difficult year, and we have all had to adapt the way we work and live. Where normally we would be running activities and events in our parks in the build up to Christmas, we have had to think of other ways to encourage people to get involved with the outdoors.

“With Christmas coming up we are taking the opportunity to have a bit of fun. We would like to introduce Oaksy, Knowsley’s very own forest elf.  It is a great way to enjoy the festive season as a family and importantly stay safe .I hope you enjoy meeting Oaksy and learning a few interesting facts about our great Knowsley parks.”
