Knowsley Council is preparing to deliver a new food waste service from 13 April 2026 and is currently delivering food waste caddies to all households across the borough. To find out where we are delivering to, please check the progress bar on our website – Food waste recycling | Knowsley Council
What will be included with my caddy?
When your outdoor caddy is delivered to your property you will find inside:-
- An indoor caddy
- A roll of caddy liners
- An information leaflet about what can and can’t be recycled
- Your 2026/2027 collection calendar
What should I do with my caddy once received?
Your outdoor caddy can remain outside and bring your indoor caddy, leaflet and calendar inside. Take a look at your leaflet which tells you how the service works and what you can / can’t put in your food caddy. Remember collections start from 13 April so do not fill your caddy until week commencing 6 April.
What should I do on my collection day?
- From 6 April, place a caddy liner in your indoor caddy and empty your food waste into the liner.
- When it’s full, tightly tie the handles on the bag and then place the bag in your outdoor caddy.
- From week commencing 13 April, by 7am on your collection day, place your outdoor caddy on the kerbside.
- Please make sure your outdoor caddy lid is closed with the handle in the locked upright position.
- If you need more caddy liners, please tie a caddy liner on the handle of your outdoor caddy.
- Put your caddy back safely after collection.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said “We’re making it as quick and easy and possible for residents to recycle even more, which includes the introduction of the new food waste recycling service.
“As well as food waste recycling collections being weekly, you’ll create more space in your maroon bin for items that can’t be recycled.”
