Following the introduction of Government grants to support businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, the first tranche of payments to Knowsley based businesses have been processed.
The first 500 grants with a value of £5.5m will start to reach businesses bank accounts from today (Wednesday 8 March 2020).
The financial assistance from Government is being made available to small businesses, those in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors, along with children’s nurseries, who meet the eligibility criteria.
Since the online process went live on Monday 30 March, the council has received more than 1,100 applications. The council is working hard to process these applications to ensure that payments are made to businesses as soon as possible. The timing of payments reaching business accounts is also reliant on banks, which currently require 3 working days to transfer the payments.
Cllr Jayne Aston, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said:
“I understand that this is a worrying time for individuals and businesses owners in Knowsley. Our teams have been working tirelessly to gather the business details and process the payments to businesses to help them with the support that they need.
I would ask those businesses who haven’t received their grants yet to bear with us, as you can see from the numbers, we’re dealing with a lot of applications and they will be processed and payments made as quickly as possible.”
