First glimpse of what to expect from new play park in Kirkby

Images of a new play area planned for Tower Hill Park in Kirkby have been released ahead of work starting on site. The plans for the park have been developed following a public consultation that took place in September 2025 and it is expected to be up and running in the summer.

The new facilities will include two large play areas – with a variety of swings, inclusive and sensory equipment, large slides and dynamic pieces that are suitable for use by a wide range of ages – from toddlers to teenagers.

The new park is being delivered thanks to funding from S106 developer contributions and a new Pride in Place Playground Fund.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods commented: “The plans for a new park in Tower Hill have been under development for some time so it’s great that we can now visualise what will be delivered here. The community got really involved in the consultation and I hope that the final park reflects their ideas and will enable local children and young people to play safely in their local area.”

The design for the park directly reflects the feedback from the consultation including both a junior play area and a fenced toddler area. The equipment has been selected based on feedback that residents would like to see equipment that is fun, new and challenging for children, while also offering traditional favourites such as swings.  It will contain a mix of challenging and dynamic equipment for older children, and inclusive and accessible equipment for younger children and those with additional needs.

The Council is currently sourcing a contractor to deliver the scheme and sourcing the commercial play equipment that is required in public parks, ensuring it complies to high safety standards, is robust to withstand a high number of users whilst also ensuring that appropriate safety surfacing is in place prior to installation.

The new play area is due to be completed by the summer this year.
