First glimpse of new and improved Grace Park, Halewood

by Jonathan Kearney

Residents of Halewood can take a sneak peek into the future, thanks to a new computer-generated fly-through that shows you what to expect from the proposed new and improved Grace Park (Wood Road field).

Subject to planning approval, the park is set to benefit from a multi-million investment that will not only improve sports, play and recreation facilities but better connect the park to the town centre for the whole community to enjoy.

What to expect

The fly-through takes viewers through the new gateway to Grace Park from Leathers Lane, over the new all-weather football pitches surrounded by acoustic fencing to reduce noise for nearby homes. The video highlights the dedicated kids zone for children of all ages and a new plaza, which can be used as a focal point for community activities. As the camera pans towards Wood Road we can see the colourful new garden area with new tree planting, the informal green space and new ponds and rain gardens to help attract wildlife.

Viewers can see the through route for pedestrians and cyclists lined with seating and a new car park with accessible bays and EV charging, to reduce congestion during sporting events.

A new modern clubhouse managed by Halewood Juniors FC, with changing rooms, toilets, a café and social space for community activities, features at the end of the video.

Dedicated play area

The second video focuses on the dedicated youth zone, highlighting play equipment designed for kids aged 8-13 to enjoy. The secure accessible play area for young younger children is linked by an adventure trail connecting both spaces to encourage children to explore, be active and try new experiences.

The youth zone is next to the welcoming plaza that connects directly to Halewood Shopping Centre and will be used as focal point for community activities, including celebrations and remembrance.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods commented: “The proposals for Grace Park are integral to the overall investment in Halewood and will help connect the park to the town centre, making it easier for people to access and enjoy. We know how much our residents value our green spaces and I’m sure they will be excited by these plans for Grace Park.”

Planning application

A planning application has been submitted which, if approved, will bring this vision to reality. The application is expected to be considered by the Council’s Planning Committee next month (September 2026).

If planning approval is granted, work is scheduled to commence on site in early 2027.

£30m investment in Halewood

Knowsley Council secured £15.3m UK Government funding and an additional £2.5m from the City Region Sustainable Travel Settlement to invest in Halewood. In addition, the Council has secured around £13m in Section 106 contributions from developers delivering the East of Halewood housing development. This investment is already being ploughed into improved services and facilities in Halewood, meaning that over £30 million will be invested in Halewood in the coming years.
