Expert advice to help boost your child’s early speech and language

by Sandra Issar

Families in Knowsley with young children – from newborn babies up to five-years-old – will have access to expert advice which will be shared across social media in Knowsley next week, with the aim of helping parents give a boost to young children’s early literacy and communication skills.

The Council’s Knowsley Early Years Service and North West Boroughs Healthcare have joined together to share a range of ideas with parents and carers to support their children’s learning through everyday activities such as going for a local walk and playing at home.

It’s based on the research that finds the first years of life are crucial for a child’s early speech and language development.

How can I help my child?

Reading, playing and chatting with them are simple things parents can do to help their child to develop.

The social media campaign can give you ideas for fun and easy-to-follow activities you can do with your young child, which if you can make part of your regular routine will help with their speech and language development. It will also suggest ways in which you can find the confidence to support your child’s early learning at home.

We would love as many people as possible to get involved in the campaign, by sharing the social media posts with your friends, your family or your colleagues.

Cllr Margaret Harvey, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:

“We all want the best for our children, and investing in their early years will get them off to a great start and will bring rewards later on when they progress through school and beyond.

“The social media campaign aims to make nurturing your child’s early speech and language easier at home, with ideas around how you bring learning into your everyday routine.

“I would encourage parents and carers to follow our posts, try out some of the activities and have fun helping your child’s learning at home.”

You can follow the campaign from Monday 15 to Friday 19 March on Knowsley Early Years facebook, twitter and instagram and North West Boroughs Healthcare facebook, twitter and Instagram also the FIS facebook and twitter feeds.
