Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in Halewood South on Tuesday, 7 October tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area. (Here’s some advice about controlling ratsand keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens.)
Officers will carry out checks on retailers and do food hygiene inspections, as well as speaking to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Halewood Library, Roseheath Road will be the base for a number of organisations offering advice and support from 10am. These include:
- Knowsley Council’s Healthy Homes roadshow event bringing together local partners offering support on housing, health, wellbeing, digital inclusion, and financial advice.
- Knowsley’s Recycling Engagement Team will be offering recycling advice and facilities for the recycling of vapes, batteries, textiles and small electricals.
Schoolchildren from Yew Tree Primary and St Andrews the Apostle Primary will be holding litter picks to support the local clean up on 7 and 10 October. Conservation volunteers will be holding a task morning at Finch Woods, as well as promoting opportunities for community volunteers.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Our programme of action days have been a great success and shown how we can come together with partners to make a real impact in areas across the borough. This initiative is an opportunity to take targeted action and tackle specific environmental issues in a ward, encourage behaviour change and enable communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
Council teams involved in the action days will include Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Streetscene, Pest Control, Waste and Recycling, Safer Communities, as well as partners including Livv Housing.
