Teams from Knowsley Council and its partners will be out and about in the Cherryfield ward of Kirkby on Wednesday, 29 October, tackling a range of environmental issues, from littering and graffiti to fly tipping and dog fouling.
It’s one of a series of Environmental Action Days being held across the borough, bringing partner agencies together to spend a day focusing on the most pressing issues in a specific location.
What’s happening on the day?
Activities on the day will include:
- clearing litter and fly tipping in hotspot areas
- removal of waste and abandoned bins
- cleansing and grounds maintenance inspections
- sewer baiting to control the rat population in the area. (Here’s some advice about controlling rats and keeping them away from homes, businesses and gardens.)
Council officers will carry out food hygiene inspections and speak to businesses and residents who are failing to manage their waste, taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Southdene Community Centre, Broad Ln, Kirkby, L32 6QG, will be the base for a number of activities, including:
- Responsible Dog Owners’ event: 9.30am – 12pm. Knowsley’s Dog Warden, alongside Blue Cross will be offering free microchipping, a ‘chip and check’ service, pet food bank as well as advice to pet owners, and information about dog training courses. Royal Mail will be providing Information about the postal service and reducing dog related incidents.
- Mobile Recycling Centre: 9am – 12pm. Knowsley’s Recycling Engagement Team will be offering recycling advice and an opportunity to recycle vapes, batteries, textiles and small electricals.
The Crime and Communities team will be delivering letters to Broad Lane shops advising them how to report ASB to the police and Council.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Our programme of action days have been a great success and shown how we can come together with partners to make a real impact in areas across the borough. This initiative is an opportunity to take targeted action and tackle specific environmental issues in a ward, encourage behaviour change and enable communities to participate in looking after where they live and work.”
Council teams involved in the action days will include Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Licensing, Streetscene, Pest Control, Waste and Recycling, Safer Communities, as well as partners including Merseyside Police and social housing providers.
