Knowsley Council wants to hear the views of residents about the provision of electric vehicle charging points in the borough.
The Council has launched two surveys aimed at gaining an understanding of how many electric vehicle charging points are needed in Knowsley and where they should be placed. There is a survey for domestic residents and one for businesses, including taxi drivers.
It is hoped the results of the surveys will help the council create a borough-wide public network of charges that include slow, fast and ultra-fast charging stations.
Complete the survey for domestic residents and the survey for businesses/taxi drivers before 9th May. Each survey is completely anonymous and takes no more than a few minutes to fill out.
Already, Knowsley is home to over 100 charging stations for EV’s. Most of these can be found at petrol stations and supermarkets, with an increasing number connected to private driveways allowing EV owners to charge their cars at home.
However, this still leaves those without driveways or suitable off driveway parking with no easy way of charging their cars.
Why have we launched these surveys?
In 2024, the UK electric vehicle market hit an all-time high with over 300,000 fully electric cars sold, a figure that is expected to increase as we continue into 2025.
In March 2024, hybrid electric vehicles made up 44% of all private hire vehicles used across the UK; with fully battery electric vehicles making up 8.8%. Figures that are expected to increase with the number of petrol and diesel vehicles used by the PHV industry decreasing each year.
With more and more people across the country choosing electric vehicles as their transport of choice, it is important that Knowsley ensures it has the right infrastructure in place to support them.
