Do you know your Recycle Rights?

by Cathy Sheel

A new campaign aimed at boosting recycling is asking residents ‘Do you know your Recycle Rights?’

The campaign, from the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, is helping householders take the guesswork out of recycling by highlighting key ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ when it comes to what can go into the grey recycling bin.

Sometimes confusion about which items are recyclable can result in valuable recycling being lost among the general waste.

In Knowsley residents can recycle all their glass bottles and jars, food tins, cardboard, paper and plastic bottles in their grey bin.

Key campaign messages include:

  • Plastic bottles, drink cans, food tins, glass bottles and jars need to be washed, not squashed!
  • Paper and cardboard can be squashed but keep them dry!
  • All recycling wants to be left loose and not contained in plastic bags.
