This week, Knowsley’s Road Safety team engaged with hundreds of primary school children who attended the annual Crucial Crew event.
Crucial Crew supports young people’s transition from primary to secondary school and Year 6 pupils are invited to come along to learn essential skills and knowledge that will help them as they prepare for their move to secondary school.
Over 500 Year 6 pupils attended the multi-agency event held at Aintree Racecourse, to learn more about road safety and take part in a range of hands on and interactive safety workshops.
During the Road Safety workshop, children investigated an immersive collision scene to help them to understand the impact of driver and pedestrian behaviour. They were also taught about the dangers of distractions when using the roads and how they could contribute to or cause collisions.
As we approach the official end of British Summer Time and the evenings become darker, children were also given advice about being seen when travelling in the dark and how they can wear reflective clothing and accessories to help with visibility.
Other agencies supported the children to become more aware of personal safety, crime prevention, responsible use of public transport, and how to actively contribute to their own health.
