COVID-19 vaccination opens up for those aged over 56

by Guy Murphy

The UK’s coronavirus vaccination programme has now moved to cohort 5 meaning people aged 56 and over will soon start receiving appointment invitations.

Over a third of all adults in England have already received their first dose.

In the coming weeks, Knowsley residents aged 56 and over will receive their invitations to book an appointment locally, at Pharmact2U at Village Hotel Whiston, Davey’s Pharmacy, Huyton or a number of other sites within a 45 minute radius, or at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens.

Those aged 18-64 who are in one of the at-risk groups will also be invited to have their first dose of the vaccine in the coming weeks.

If you’re a Knowsley resident, or registered with a Knowsley GP, and fall into one of the priority groups or if you’re aged 56+ and have yet to have your vaccine, visit nhs.uk/covidvaccine or call Knowsley CCG on 0151 244 4121 to book your appointment.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “The vaccine programme in Knowsley is moving along very quickly which is great news for our residents.

“Studies have shown even having just the first COVID vaccine jab is very effective and so I would urge everyone who receives their letter to make their appointment as quickly as possible.

“It is only by driving down the rate of infection and increasing the number of people vaccinated that we can keep on easing restrictions.”
