COVID-19 vaccination opens up for those aged over 50

by Guy Murphy

The UK’s coronavirus vaccination programme has now moved to cohort 9 meaning people aged 50 and over will soon start receiving appointment invitations.

This is a huge milestone in the vaccination programme as it is the final stage in the first phase of priority groups.

In the coming weeks, Knowsley residents aged 50 and over will receive their invitations to book an appointment locally, at Pharmact2U at Village Hotel Whiston, Davey’s Pharmacy, Huyton or a number of other sites within a 45 minute radius, or at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens.

If you’re a Knowsley resident, or registered with a Knowsley GP, and fall into one of the priority groups or if you’re aged 50+ and have yet to have your vaccine, visit nhs.uk/covidvaccine or call Knowsley CCG on 0151 244 4121 to book your appointment.

Those aged 18+ with underlying health conditions are also currently receiving their appointment invitations.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “It is fantastic that the vaccine rollout in Knowsley is now reaching the final cohort within the first phase priority groups.

“This means that nearly all residents who are most at harm from COVID-19 will now have received their first jab with many soon to receive their second.

“The vaccination programme is our route back to normality offering you the best protection from this virus and I would urge everyone who hasn’t had their vaccine yet or received an invite from the NHS to get in touch with Knowsley CCG.

“I would also like to thank everyone who is working tirelessly in our vaccination centres across the borough.”
