COVID-19 vaccination bus comes to Knowsley

by Jonathan Kearney

The NHS COVID-19 vaccination bus will be visiting locations across Knowsley, helping to make the vaccine even more accessible to residents.

Data shows that vaccine uptake has been lower in some areas, so the vaccination bus will be stopping for two days in different locations in a bid to make sure no one misses out on their COVID-19 vaccination.

There is no need to book an appointment. If you’re in an eligible group, you can just pop along to the bus and you will be given your vaccine there and then. However, you can only be vaccinated if you meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Aged 50+
  • Clinically extremely vulnerable
  • Have a learning disability
  • Are a frontline health or care worker
  • Are an unpaid carer
  • Have a health condition which puts you at a higher risk of the virus

You should not visit the bus if you do not fall into one of the above.  If you aren’t in one of these groups, the NHS will contact you when it’s your turn.

The vaccination bus will be visiting Old Rough Lane, Kirkby, L33 6XE  (car park opposite Quarry Green shops) on Monday, 24 May and Tuesday, 25 May from 10am until 4pm. Remember, you can just call in as no appointment is needed.

The bus will then return 10-12 weeks’ later for you to have your second dose. You will be contacted in advance to confirm the date, but the bus will once again return to Old Rough Lane.

Dr Dawn Heath, Clinical Director at Prescot Medical Centre, said: “The vaccination programme has been hugely successful in Knowsley with the majority of those in the first phase priority groups having received their first jab.

“The vaccination bus will allow us get out in areas where vaccine uptake is lower and make sure that all of our residents have the opportunity to be vaccinated.  It really does offer you the best protection from the virus.

“I would urge anyone who has not yet been for their vaccine and meets the eligibility criteria to visit the bus.”

The bus, which has been provided by bus operator Arriva free of charge, will also be visiting other areas across Knowsley over the coming weeks and further details will be shared once confirmed.

The NHS is only using COVID-19 vaccines that are proven to be safe and offer the highest level of protection. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, visit the NHS website.
