All school staff will be able to access additional testing slots at Knowsley’s community SMART testing facilities from Monday 4 January.
At each of the borough’s three testing sites (Halewood, Huyton and Kirkby) anyone working in a Knowsley school, and who is symptom free, will be able to get tested for COVID-19 from 8am on weekdays – an hour earlier than the centres usually open.
These extra hours will add additional capacity to the testing programme to accommodate the anticipated increase in numbers as teachers and other school staff get tested before returning to work after the Christmas break. The additional capacity also aims to ensure the community use of the centres, which are currently dealing with hundreds of residents each day, is not disrupted.
Anyone working in a school (primary, secondary or special provision) can attend any one of the three testing sites in Knowsley between 8am to 9am Monday to Friday. To access these additional slots people will be expected to show their school ID pass.
All centres will open as normal at 9am and stay open until 6pm on weekdays and open 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Knowsley’s SMART testing centres are located at Volair Leisure Centres in Halewood, Huyton and Kirkby.
