Knowsley Council Leader, Councillor Graham Morgan joined Graham Lancaster, Chair of Court Hey Bowling Club and members of the club committee to officially open the new Clubhouse at Court Hey Park this week. The new facilities were created thanks to a £9,000 grant from Sport England’s Movement Fund.
The opening of the bowling clubhouse is the culmination of a series of works undertaken by the Council in collaboration with the Court Hey Bowling Club to improve the facilities and accessibility of the bowling green, that is located within the park.
Cllr Morgan commented: “I am delighted that the Council has been able to support the Club to secure the funding to create this new clubhouse on site. The Bowling Club have been playing at Court Hey for over 20 years and have more than 50 members. They are part of Court Hey’s DNA and play an important role in keeping people active and engaged.”
The new clubhouse replaces the old maintenance container that the club has previously been operating from on site. In addition to the new building the Council has also improved the surfacing and entranceways to increase the accessibility and safety of the green for players.
These improvements and the work of the Court Hey Bowling committee has seen the club membership swell to over 50 members with two teams (including a mixed team) that play within the Liverpool Pensioners Bowling League. The club also open the green three times a week during the season for social bowling and run indoor bowling events and trips away off season. The new season begins this April and will run until early September.
