The Council’s budget explained

by Laura Johnston

Did you know that Knowsley Council is the hardest hit local authority across the country when it comes to central Government funding cuts? This has an impact on what services we provide and how we provide them.

Do you know where the council’s funding comes from, how it is spent and how much it has had to save over the years?

We have provided the answers to all of these questions on the council’s website as well as explaining why we are also investing in the borough to accelerate growth in jobs, houses and businesses.

Cllr Gary See, Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“I know that the budget is a complex issue to explain and I wanted to make it as easy as possible for our residents to understand why we face the pressures we do and why some of our services are changing in terms of opening hours or the way that they are being delivered and why we have secured an investment package for the borough despite the funding cuts we face.  In summary, we want to ensure that our borough is sustainable, whilst raising more money locally to protect our key services.  For the first time, we have been able to set a three year budget, taking us to 2020.  Over the next few years, we are changing how we deliver some of our services, but importantly, the services that our residents and businesses value and need will still be available.”
