Earlier this week, Knowsley Council approved a further £1m of permanent investment to support domestic abuse victims / survivors.
The Council has a team of Domestic Abuse Advocates who provide specialist domestic abuse support to residents, alongside working with our specialist independent services which includes The First Step.
The investment will be used to further bolster existing domestic abuse services, pathways and support for victims / survivors and early intervention with children impacted by domestic abuse. In addition, the Council will further invest in e-learning, training and development ensuring that professionals across the Council and partner agencies can spot the signs of domestic abuse at an early stage and ensure appropriate support and interventions are in place to prevent the abuse from escalating. Additional posts will also be created to bolster capacity and provide specialist support including learning from reviews undertaken and identifying those showing the signs of perpetrating at an early stage.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said “We know that domestic abuse is a key priority for us and our residents and that’s why we have secured £1m of additional permanent investment into the essential support and services provided to our residents.
“It’s really important that our residents know that help and support is available – they are not alone.
“This latest investment will help us to expand on the support to victims / survivors.”
It’s important that the signs of domestic abuse are understood so that as well as spotting the signs in your own relationship, you can also spot the signs in other’s. Spotting the signs early is essential to help to break the cycle of abuse.
Signs to look out for include, but aren’t limited to:
- Being withdrawn
- Having bruises
- Having finances controlled by someone else
- Not being allowed to leave the house
- Having technology or social media use monitored by someone else
