Knowsley Council offers a two-year Graduate Programme providing a range of opportunities to learn, attend service-specific training as well as gaining invaluable work experience.
Opportunities include Policy and Performance, Health and Safety, Highways, Estates and Building Surveyor, with more opportunities becoming available throughout the year. There is no age limit for the Knowsley Council Graduate Programme.
Luke Campbell, aged 22, who lives in Knowsley, left secondary school with 10 GCSEs and then went on to study and secure A Levels in Maths, Physics and History at neighbouring Carmel College.
Luke’s favourite subject at school was Maths and he developed a keen interest in Engineering from the age of 15 years – an interest he pursued through further education at Liverpool John Moores University where he studied a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and then he joined Knowsley Council’s Graduate Programme in 2022.
Luke said:
“I’m now working as a Graduate Engineer in the Highways and Capital Delivery Team. The Council is supporting me to complete a Level 4 Project Management Course through Blackpool and Fylde College.
“I chose the Council’s Graduate Programme as Highways was my preferred area of work within Civil Engineering and there was an opportunity in this field at the Council. Also, as a Knowsley resident, I liked the idea of having the opportunity to have an impact on my local community and to make positive change.
“I would recommend the Council’s Graduate Programme as it allows me to work in various teams within Highways, allowing me to gain experience in specific areas and ultimately, help me to decide the specific area that I would like to pursue in the future.
“The Highways team has been very helpful and supportive during my time so far, and they are happy to share their experience and give me opportunities that have helped me with my development.
“I’m also able to earn a wage, gain invaluable work experience whilst also pursing further training and qualifications through the Project Management Course.”
