A community ‘action day’ took place on Friday 30 November 2018 in which members of the community with Swanside councillors and supported by facilities and environmental company Assist tidied up community spaces at St. Bartholomew’s Church, The Age UK Mid Mersey Roby Hub and Roby Field.
As well as litter picking, grass cutting and general maintenance of the areas, the team of volunteers planted 600 daffodil bulbs along the footpath linking Church road and Weston Avenue, planted 14 new trees on the Roby Field and planted 120 hedgerow saplings in St. Bartholomew’s Churchyard.
Cllr Graham Morgan, leader of the council said: “The Swanside councillors were delighted to co-ordinate another Action Day. It’s not only a great opportunity to have a positive impact on the local environment but also a chance to get out and meet up with other members of the community.”
The next community action day will take place in the spring so watch this space for an update.
