Christmas lights put some sparkle into Knowsley’s town centres

by Gemma Melling

Twinkling Christmas lights in Knowsley’s town centres are sending a message of hope and positivity after being switched on to cheer up the winter evenings.

And although many of the shops and outlets are currently closed until Wednesday due to lockdown restrictions, it is hoped the festive lighting will help raise the spirits of those shopping for Christmas in the weeks ahead.

In Huyton Village you’ll also find a large Christmas bauble has landed in the middle of the shopping centre… creating the perfect backdrop for a festive photo! And if you do take your picture – why not share it with our @HuytonVillageCentre accounts on social media, or use the hashtag #HuytonVillageChristmas – and you could win £100 to spend in Knowsley’s town centres!

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Knowsley Council, said: “Clearly, this is not a ‘normal’ pre-Christmas period in our town centres.

“Obviously we’ve not been able to hold any switch-on events or plan any other gatherings in our town centres this year, but we still felt it was important to show that we still have that Christmas spirit here in Knowsley. After a year like this, those messages of hope, positivity and light have even greater meaning.”

Knowsley Council has made supporting its town centres a key priority, working proactively with retailers and business owners to ensure they access the financial help they need in the short term, whilst also giving them access to expert advice and help to not only survive but also grow their businesses in the months ahead.

This support, including expert business coaching from Save the High Street, which has been commissioned by Knowsley Council, has already seen a number of high street businesses setting up online shops for the first time.

The council has also launched a Knowsley Town Centres Gift Card, which will allow people to support local shops even if they aren’t able to physically visit them in the run up to Christmas. With many shops, restaurants, cafes and market stalls already signed up to the scheme and more joining every day, the gift cards are a great way to give someone the ‘gift of choice’ this Christmas.
