With the festive season fast approaching, we’re being encouraged to ‘choose to reuse’ this Christmas.

Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority’s ‘Choose to Reuse’ campaign is offering lots of tips and information helping families to reduce waste and save money – while protecting the environment.

All of the information can be found on Liverpool City Region Zero Waste’s Choose to Reuse this Christmas, which features:

  • Sustainable Christmas tree tips
  • Eco-friendly Christmas decorations
  • Carbon-reducing Christmas cards
  • Waste-free ways to wrap Christmas presents, and
  • Green gift giving ideas.

Did you know?

According to national data from the Environment Agency, around 30% more waste is generated at Christmas time.

  • An estimated 50,000 trees are cut down to make Christmas wrapping paper
  • Over 1 billion Christmas cards are thrown away per year.
  • Over 21 million people will receive at least one unwanted Christmas present. 5% of these gifts will be thrown away.

Going green in Knowsley

Remember you can recycle the following in your grey bin:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Food and drinks tins
  • Plastic bottles
  • Cardboard (not wet) folded flat
  • Wrapping paper (not foil) – remove Sellotape and bows
  • Christmas cards – without embellishments
