Childcare and care home business grant launched for Liverpool City Region

by Sandra Issar

Childcare and care home businesses which have suffered a significant financial impact due to the Covid 19 pandemic may now be able to benefit from a new Liverpool City Region grant.

A new fund, the LCR Care Providers’ Grant, has been created by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for childcare and care home businesses which have seen a fall in demand, or a significant increase in costs due to the management of a Covid-safe environment.

Which businesses can apply for a grant?

  • Registered Childminders can apply for a £500 grant
  • Registered Out of School Clubs can apply for a £2,500 grant
  • Registered Day Care Nursery / pre-school provision can apply for a £5,000 grant
  • Registered Care Homes (Adults) can apply for a £5,000 grant

Eligible businesses must be based in the Liverpool City Region and be either an Ofsted registered childcare provider or CQC registered adult care home provider.

Applicants must also be a small or micro business, employing one or more people, and be able to accept the grant under Covid-19 Business Grant Subsidy Allowance rules.

The LCR Care Grant will be allocated quickly and efficiently, with the first funding to reach applicants within 10 working days of the application being approved.

Businesses wishing to apply for the grants should do so through their local council. For Knowsley businesses, the application process is on the Knowsley Council website.

The window for the first round of applications opened on Tuesday 4 May 2021 and will close on Tuesday 18 May 2021.

You must complete the application form and provide the required evidence as unfortunately incomplete applications will not be appraised. Please also note that submitting an application does not guarantee approval for payment and due to the volume of applications expected, it may take several weeks to consider applications and for you to receive a decision

Businesses can apply for one grant per property if they operate more than one premises within the local authority area.

If your business operates premises in another local authority within Liverpool City Region (Halton, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral), and you would like those premises to be considered for this grant, you will need to submit a separate application to each local authority where the premises are located.
