It’s National Volunteers’ Week (2-8 June) and we’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the many volunteers and community groups for their contribution to Knowsley’s communities.
Every day volunteers are making a difference in all walks of life in communities across Knowsley.
This week gives us an opportunity to thank and recognise their dedicated work. Our volunteers include:
- Community and conservation groups, as well as ‘friends of’ parks volunteers, who spend thousands of hours making sure our parks and green spaces are looking their best and are safe places for everyone to enjoy. There are over 51 groups who work tirelessly in our parks.
- The volunteers at Kirkby Gallery and Prescot Museum who are always on hand to give a warm welcome to visitors.
- Volunteers who support our Culture and Events team at events such as the upcoming Elizabethan Fayre and Knowsley Flower Show.
- The volunteers from Knowsley Archives Service including Mark, Frances and Heather, who have been volunteering with the Archive for a combined total of 32 years, supporting the service through working with the collections and helping to support Archive events.

Recently Knowsley Council’s Stronger Communities Scrutiny Committee conducted a review which highlighted the fantastic work being done by volunteers across the borough and recognised their dedication and hard work. One of the key recommendations of the review is to formally acknowledge and thank volunteers for their invaluable contributions.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. Find out more.
