Celebrating National Day for Staff Networks

by Lisa Bennett

Knowsley Council is celebrating and saying “thank you” to the Chairs and members of their employee networks on National Day for Staff Networks, which takes place on Wednesday 14 May.

The National Day for Staff Networks is the world’s only nationwide day dedicated to recognising networks / resource groups and the incredible value they add to the workplace. The day aims to celebrate and recognise the contributions, experiences, and insight of colleagues, and to encourage collaboration and support.

The council has a number of established employee networks – set up by employees for employees.  They provide opportunities to discuss issues, provide invaluable support from colleagues as well as providing opportunities to inform and influence the council’s policies and procedures.

The networks have been instrumental in helping to organise events and shape policies including organising the first Knowsley Pride event last year, supported residents in Knowsley by arranging Food Bank collections, produced a “Here for Good” film about the history of black families in Knowsley, helped to develop the carer’s passport as well as being instrumental in the development of the Menopause Policy.

The council currently has:-

  • a Black and Minority Workers’ Group
  • a Carers’ Forum
  • The Changies Men’s Support Group
  • a Disability Workers’ Group
  • an LGBTQ+ Forum
  • a Multi-Faith and Belief Group
  • a Neuro Diversity Network
  • a Women’s Operational Networkwho run Menopause Café’s
  • a Youth Employment Network

Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“Our employee networks have a vital role within the Council and it’s great to see employees developing and growing these networks over the years.

“Our networks have been established by employees for employees and really tackle the issues that are important to them.

“It’s important on National Day for Staff Networks that we recognise their contribution to our organisation and say thank you.

“Their work really has had a positive impact here at Knowsley Council for the benefit of everyone who works here.”

You can also hear from each network and their Chair in short film.
