An afternoon of celebrations were held to mark the official unveiling of improvements at Old Rough Park and children’s playground in Northwood.
Local families and community volunteers, were joined by Knowsley Council Leader, Cllr Graham Morgan and Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods Cllr Shelley Powell at the Community Fun Day held to mark the completion of an improvement programme at the park.
The transformation of Old Rough Park has seen the creation of a new children’s play area and pathway, alongside improvements to the park entrances, installation of bins and benches and a new wetland area – to help prevent pathway flooding.
The works were funded by developer contributions secured by the council from McDermott Homes as part of the nearby Mulberry Park development. A public consultation held last year encouraged residents to get involved and help shape the park’s improvements and play area masterplan.
The ‘Old Rough Task Group’ was also formed during the consultation period, and the Community Fun Day celebrated the group’s dedication to the park and its future.
Cllr Morgan paid tribute to the local residents, partners, volunteers and councillors who worked hard to support bringing the vision for the park to life. He added: “I was delighted to join the celebrations at Old Rough Park and see how children, families and residents are benefiting from the improvements at the park. As a Council, we have already received many compliments for the works that have been undertaken.”
