Knowsley Council is supporting National Carers Week (9-15 June) and helping to celebrate the contribution carers make to families and communities.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The theme of this year’s Carers Week is ‘Caring About Equality.’ This highlights the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, poor mental and physical health.
There are 5.8 million people in the UK caring for a family member, friend or neighbour who is ill, older or disabled. Despite contributing an estimated £184 billion to the UK economy each year, many carers feel undervalued and unsupported.
Carers Week 2025 is organised by Carers UK, alongside charity supporters Age UK, Carers Trust, MND Association, Oxfam GB, Rethink Mental Illness, The ME Association and The Lewy Body Society.
Cllr Del Arnall, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “Carers Week is a vital opportunity for our community to come together and recognise the important contribution carers make to support some of the most vulnerable in our society, and raise awareness of the inequalities carers face, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, and poor mental and physical health.”
What’s happening during Carers Week?
Knowsley Carers Hub is hosting an Information Day on Monday, 9 June, from 10.30am – 2.00pm at the Old Schoolhouse, St John’s Road, Huyton L36 0UX.
This is a drop-in session so carers can come for 10 minutes or two hours and speak to professionals about any issues you may be facing. Light refreshments will be available

The Hub is also hosting two Coffee & Chat sessions when carers can come along, enjoy a delicious cream tea and chat to a member of the team.

Thursday, 12 June, 10am – 12 noon at Knowsley Carers Hub, 143 Bewley Drive, Kirkby L32 9PE.

Support for Carers in Knowsley
Knowsley Carers Hub offers a range of services to support unpaid carers who live in Knowsley, or care for a Knowsley resident.
The Hub works in partnership with various agencies to provide information on issues such as Direct Payments, Housing, Advocacy, Health and other forms of support.
