Will you join the thousands of people around the world who’ll be doing their bit to reduce air pollution by ditching the car for the day on Sunday 22 September?
The aim of World Car Free Day, an annual international event, is to encourage people to choose more sustainable transport such as getting around on foot, by train, bus or bike. The benefits are not only to the environment but also to people’s health and wellbeing.
Choose two wheels instead of four on World Car Free Day in Knowsley
To support World Car Free Day in Knowsley, Cycling Projects are holding their annual Great Pedal Away event on Sunday, 22 September and people of all ages and abilities are welcome – there will be something for everyone!
This cycling event is being held at Aintree Racecourse and there will be opportunities to learn to ride and take part in an off-road family ride. Wheels for All adapted cycles will be available for people with a disability, and a 40-mile ride will take in the scenic delights of Knowsley. In addition, there will be the popular Ditch Your Stabiliser event.
Many of the activities need to be booked in advance. You can find out more, and reserve a space, on the Pedal Away website.
There will also be a festival village with stalls from local community groups and support services as well as refreshments.
A family friendly community event
Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “World Car Free day is a great opportunity to have a walk or take out your bike which can also have great benefits to your health and wellbeing too. The Great Pedal Away events organised on the day also provide a great opportunity to try new things and learn new skills, so take a look at what’s on offer and go along to this great family-friendly community event.”
