A special meeting of Knowsley Council’s Cabinet took place yesterday (Wednesday, 7 December).
Councillors met to consider a a paper around the Orders required to establish the Mayoral Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
The constituent local authorities of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) and the Combined Authority itself agreed a Devolution Agreement with the Government in November 2015. Part of the Devolution Agreement was to have a directly Elected Mayor for the Liverpool City Region in May 2017.
The paper, which was agreed by Knowsley’s Cabinet, outlined the next steps to progress the Parliamentary processes and to put in place the Parliamentary Orders to ensure that the Liverpool City Region Devolution Agreement can be implemented in full, allowing the directly elected Mayor to have the powers agreed in the Devolution Agreement after the election takes place in May 2017.
