Knowsley Council held its Annual General Meeting this afternoon (Friday, 21 May 2021).
Councillors re-elected Cllr Graham Morgan as Leader of the Council, along with Cllr Frank Walsh as the Mayor of Knowsley for the municipal year 2021/2022.
The council’s new Cabinet was also confirmed today, and councillors were appointed to various committees and advisory and working groups.
Knowsley Council’s Cabinet were confirmed as follows:
Leader of Knowsley Council – Cllr Graham Morgan
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care – Cllr Louise Harbour
Cabinet Member for Children’s Services – Cllr Margaret Harvey
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development – Cllr Tony Brennan
Cabinet Member for Health – Cllr Christine Bannon
Cabinet Member for Resources – Cllr Jayne Aston
Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods – Cllr Shelley Powell
A new Cabinet position has been created with the Health and Social Care portfolio now being split between two Cabinet Members – one for Adult Social Care and one for Health. The Health Portfolio will focus on recovery from the pandemic as well as the Government’s health integration programme.
Cllr Graham Morgan said: “I’m delighted to serve another term as Leader of Knowsley Council, something I’m incredibly honoured to do.
“The last 14 months have obviously been extraordinarily challenging, and have demonstrated more clearly than ever the need for strong and decisive local leadership, which is what we have delivered in Knowsley.
“When people were left in need of food, medicine and support almost overnight, this council stepped up immediately and made sure that those in need got help.
“Nobody would ever pretend that was easy, or that having to take so many vital decisions so very quickly was without its challenges. But I’m extremely proud at the agile way in which this council did respond and I’m confident that we are now in a very strong position to help this borough recover, and recover well.
“The year ahead is going to continue to be another demanding one, but my colleagues and I are absolutely committed – as we always have been – to ensuring the people of this borough are given every opportunity to live happy, prosperous and healthy lives.”
