Mums-to-be, new mums and breastfeeding mums are invited to drop into the Breastfeeding Information and Support sessions taking place in Knowsley during Breastfeeding Awareness Week, from Monday 20 June.
Throughout the week Breastfeeding Buddies and partner organisations will be on-hand to offer support and advice in family-friendly venues across Knowsley.
The Buddies are all local mums who have breastfed their own babies and want to help other mums do the same. The Buddies Service is delivered by Everyone Health on behalf of Knowsley Council.
Knowsley Mum Claire who has been supported by the Breastfeeding Buddies Service, said:
“I’ve really enjoyed the chats with my Buddy who has breastfeeding experience and knowledge! My buddy always reassures me and makes me feel that I’m doing a good job, but also doesn’t make me feel under any pressure.
“The Breastfeeding Buddies Facebook group where we can ask any questions and share information and stories has been so helpful and I would’ve been lost without it!”
Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Health said:
“Breastfeeding for even a short period brings many health benefits to mother and baby, and the longer breastfeeding continues the better.
“Breastfeeding is something that a mother and her baby learn together, and getting the right support can help enable mums to breastfeed for longer.
“Mums tell us that after the first few weeks breastfeeding becomes easier, so proper support from the Buddies can really help mums-to-be and new mums in those early days.”
