Bowring Park Launch Free, Hands-On February Half Term Activities for Families

by Guy Murphy

Bowring Park have unveiled a full programme of free activities for families this February half term, offering outdoor adventure, practical skills and creative workshops at no cost to local residents.

Running from 14th – 22nd February, the week-long programme has been designed to remove financial barriers, get people out of the house, and give children and families meaningful experiences during the school holidays.

All sessions are free to attend, with several delivered through SNAP funding to support access for local families.

The half term line-up includes:

–       Eco Explorers Day (Friday 20 February): A fully funded outdoor activity day for up to 40 young people, featuring scavenger hunts, bug hotel building and guided wildflower walks.

–       Family Cooking Workshop (Wednesday 18 February, Huyton Village Green): A SNAP-funded session where families cook together from scratch and share what they’ve made.

–       Free Craft Sessions (Tuesday 17 February, Bowring Park): Two creative workshops delivered in partnership with Shelter.

–       Forest School (Monday 16 February): Outdoor learning designed to build confidence, curiosity and resilience.

–       Community Planting Day (Thursday 19 February): An open gardening session inviting families to plant vegetables, flowers and trees, take part in composting demonstrations  and take seedlings home.

–       Self-Guided Nature Trails (available all week): Free activity trails encouraging families to explore the park at their own pace.

Demand is already strong, so head to Bowring Park’s website to reserve your spot.

Oisín Hennessy, Project Lead at Bowring Park, said: “We wanted this half term to feel purposeful. Not just activities for the sake of it, but sessions that give families something to take away – whether that’s new skills, confidence outdoors or simply time together.

Making the programme completely free was important. “We want families to feel welcome here, and we want Bowring and Huyton Village Green to be places people actively choose to spend their time.”

It’s another step in Bowring’s wider ambition to make community activity simpler, more accessible and more meaningful – less talking about impact, more actually delivering it.

Advance booking is required for selected sessions due to limited capacity.
