Knowsley Council is urging residents to stay vigilant after it became aware nationally of the emergence of fake invitations to COVID-19 vaccinations that are being sent by scammers.
The scam email asks people to click a link and register for the vaccine. No registration is needed for the REAL NHS vaccination.
Scammers also ask for people to enter their bank details, either to register or make a payment. The NHS does not ask for bank details and the vaccine is completely free.
Invitations for the COVID-19 vaccination are being managed by the NHS. In Knowsley, appointments are being made by your GP by telephone.
Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “Unfortunately there are criminals out there who are taking advantage of the COVID vaccine and people’s eagerness to return to normality.
“I urge all Knowsley residents to stay vigilant and inform friends and family about these scams.
“Remember you will never be asked to click a link, register for the vaccine or make any payments. Our appointments in Knowsley are being made over the phone by your own GP.”
If you have received information regarding your vaccine but are concerned that it might be a scam, you contact your local GP or Knowsley CCG on 0151 244 4126 or email on Knowsley.CCGCommunications@knowsley.nhs.uk.
