Bereavement helpline and support

by Gemma Melling

An NHS Bereavement Helpline has been set up to offer guidance, support and advice to those dealing with the loss of a loved one at this difficult time.

The helpline is staffed by trained nurses who are highly skilled and experienced in working with bereaved families and can offer guidance and advice on dealing with grief and loss.

The helpline staff will also provide advice and guidance on funeral arrangements and how to register a death if this support is needed.

To speak to a trained nurse call the NHS Bereavement Helpline on 0800 2600 400.

The Government has also produced a bereavement support leaflet which shares important information to help bereaved families and next of kin make important decisions during these difficult times and explains practical next steps including funeral arrangements.

The leaflet lists bereavement support services for children and young people, as well as adults. The support available, including contact details, is outlined below (please note some of the services will be affected due to social distancing measures currently in place such as the drop-in sessions, so please call or email first to check what support is available):
