Are you joining the Great British Spring Clean?

by Cathy Sheel

This spring, hundreds of Knowsley’s #Litterheroes are expected to take to the streets to join Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean (28 May – 13 June).

Litter heroes across the borough have been invited to sign up to the charity’s Million Mile Mission to clear litter from our streets, parks and woodlands.

During the past 12 months our outdoor spaces have mattered to us more than ever before and we’ve seen how important our environment is to our mental and physical health.

So, an army of dedicated individuals and groups will be joining the national campaign and showing some love for those special places that helped us through lockdown.

Those taking part can pledge to support the Great British Spring Clean here and register how many hours and minutes of litter picking they’ve completed. People can pledge as individuals or as a group of up to 30 people.

There’s lots of advice and information to help supporters get started, and the charity’s Covid-19 guidance is updated regularly.

And if you need any advice about how to dispose of the litter you’ve collected, please contact the council’s Environmental Sustainability Team at dns.sustainability@knowsley.gov.uk. To boost recycling, please separate the litter into three bags containing plastic bottles, aluminium cans and general waste.

You can also read a little more about why litter-picking matters, and how you can make a difference here.

Those joining the campaign are invited to share their photos and videos on social media. Just add the campaign tags @keepbritaintidy #GBSpringClean #MillionMileMission

The community of volunteers driving the litter-picking movement can also join Litter Heroes Facebook Group, for regular updates.
