Appeal for information after shots fired at house in Huyton

by Sandra Issar

Knowsley’s Crime and Communities Team joined Merseyside Police last Wednesday (10 February 2021) to support their investigation into a firearms discharge at a house in Huyton.

The firearms discharge occurred on Monday 1 February at 4.20pm when shots were fired from a handgun at a house on Brookwood Road by two males riding on a scooter. The house was empty at the time and there were no reported injuries.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities said:

“Luckily no-one was injured in this incident, but this is reckless and unacceptable behaviour. Although it was a targeted attack, such incidents cause alarm and worry for our residents. I want to reassure our communities that our Crime and Communities Team is working alongside partners including Merseyside Police and Livv Housing to obtain further information about his incident. If you do have any information, please share it in confidence.”

You can share information with Merseyside Police by ringing 101 or share it online here. However, if there is anything you would like to discuss in confidence with our Crime and Communities Team please email Safer.Knowsley@knowsley.gov.uk

Due to the pandemic, the Crime and Communities Team’s weekly walkabouts have been postponed. However, due to the seriousness of this incident the team visited the area in smaller numbers, while maintaining a social distance between one another and issued letters through letterboxes. Prior to the pandemic walkabouts were attended by a number of partners and ward members and those attending would speak to residents face-to-face.

Knowsley’s Local Policing Team successes

Officers continue to patrol areas across the borough and tackle those who are breaching Covid guidelines. Last week, officers issued Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to 5 golfers for using Bowring Park Golf Course, which is currently closed due to lockdown restrictions.

The team also continue to share crime prevention advice to help protect your home and your vehicle.

The team also had a number of successes last week including:

  • The recovery of a knife at Wastle Bridge Park in Huyton following an open land search.
  • The arrest of two male youths in Huyton following the recovery of a motorbike which had been stolen from a nearby residential garage.
  • Following reports of a male breaking into a property in the Southdene area of Kirkby, officers arrested a male for both a domestic related burglary and breach of a restraining order and has been charged with both offences.
  • Over the last week officers from Kirkby’s new policing team continue to work with partners and address issues of vandalism and criminal damage targeted at buses in Kirkby. Read more here
