Another major milestone for Knowsley Council’s Kirkby retail development

by Gemma Melling

A further milestone has been reached on Knowsley Council’s Kirkby town centre retail development with the steelwork now being put in place.

Work started on the retail development on 9 December 2019, just a matter of weeks after the council purchased the town centre from St Modwen. Despite working in challenging conditions due to COVID-19, progress has still continued to be made each week – adhering to Government social distancing guidelines at all times.

As well as the 45,000 feet2 Morrisons superstore and a six-pump petrol station, the retail development will also be home to KFC and a new Home Bargains store.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “Seeing the steelwork at the site is a major milestone for this project and shows how much progress has been made in a short space of time.

“We remain committed to delivering this scheme for Kirkby residents and visitors who can now actually see the development coming out of the ground.  I am really looking forward to further progress over the coming months.”
