Almost £1m of investment planned for Halewood

by Laura Johnston

Volair is investing in new leisure facilities at Halewood Leisure Centre.

Working in partnership with Knowsley Council (which has provided a loan of £480,000 for the investment), the centre will be used to create a children’s soft play with additional child friendly toilets, a children’s party room and café area in the centre’s atrium, with plans to provide a 3G football pitch on the site too.

The new facilities are being introduced as a result of feedback from users as well as a way of attracting new users to the centre with the enhanced offer.

Work on the atrium and café will start next month, work on the soft play will commence in January 2019 and work is due to be completed in February 2019.

Work on the proposed 3G all-weather floodlit football  pitch is due to start in August 2019 with an estimated completion date of October 2019.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Chair of the Volair Board, said “I’m delighted to be able to progress our improvement plans for Halewood and work in partnership with Knowsley Council to provide facilities and services our members value and need. These latest upgrades complement the improvements made last year, along with our extensive group exercise offer we provide.  We’re committed to ensuring residents have the very best leisure facilities locally and I look forward to seeing these latest enhancements at the centre progress.”

The centre in Halewood has already seen a significant increase in footfall since Volair installed  a brand new state-of-the-art fitness suite in December 2017 which has already doubled its membership.

Since then Volair has contiuned with their ongoing improvement programme which has seen the refurbishment and upgrade of major areas with in the centre including toilets and changing areas.
