Adult Learning comes to Prescot

by Emily Maguire

Knowsley’s Family And Community Education (FACE) service has opened its doors to a range of adult learning help and support in Prescot Shopping Centre.

FACE supports local residents to improve their skills and gain qualifications.

From English, Maths, Teaching and preparation to work in Adult Social Care, through to Food Safety, Flower Arranging, Counselling, Cake Decorating and Getting Online, FACE can help you.

As well as learning new skills, education and learning opportunities provided through FACE can help you to build your confidence and self esteem as well as developing your work-based skills to help you on the career ladder or progress to your next job.

FACE is based in New Hutte Neighbourhood Centre and delivers courses in a range of venues across the borough including the latest addition of Unit 9 at Prescot Shopping Centre (next to the Post Office).  Courses available in Prescot include:-

Supporting Teaching and Learning for Teaching Assistants; Mental Health Awareness, Parenting; Floristry; Preparing to work in Adult Social Care; Art; Local History; Knitting; Crochet; Paper Craft; Photography and Mindfulness.

There’s also a drop-in coffee morning on Fridays from 10am until 12 noon.

Cllr Margaret Harvey, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said “We want to ensure that learning and development opportunities are accessible to all, so having FACE in the heart of Prescot town centre is a great addition to their offer.

“Whether you are looking to learn a new skill or looking to take up a new interest, there will be something for you through the vast array of courses on offer through FACE. Take a look at the range of courses on offer today.”

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said “We have ambitious development plans for our town centres and want to ensure the offer is aligned to needs. Prescot has benefitted from significant investment which has seen the opening of the Shakespeare North Playhouse and an extensive food, drink and night-time economy offer. The Council also purchased Prescot Shopping Centre in December last year and it’s great to see an empty unit brought back into use with a great community offer provided through FACE.”

Visit the FACE website to find out more about the courses available and how you can apply. Alternatively, call a member of the FACE team on 0151 443 5386 or 0151 443 5385.
