Additional SMART testing hours for those unable to stay at home

by Guy Murphy

Knowsley Council has extended the opening hours of its SMART testing sites to support those who are unable to work from home or caring for others.

Despite the UK being under national lockdown restrictions, there are still a considerable number of people in Knowsley who have to leave the house to attend work. These individuals are at more risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 and often are those responsible for delivering essential local services and support.

Knowsley Council urges anyone who has to leave the house to attend work or care for someone to get tested at least twice a week. It is particularly important that anyone working in public facing roles – such as police, teachers, NHS and shop workers – take up the testing as they are at a greater risk of catching COVID-19 and unknowingly spreading it.

The centres will be operating the following the times:

Volair Huyton, Halewood and Kirkby

Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm

Saturday and Sunday 10am until 4pm

Prescot One Stop Shop

Wednesday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

Saturday 10am – 4pm

Knowsley Village Hall

Monday and Tuesday 8am to 6pm

Sunday 10am-4pm

The new opening hours give people the opportunity to get tested pre or post work. However, the centres will be running at a reduced capacity from 5pm until 6pm so residents are urged to get tested during the day if possible.

No appointment is needed if you are not display any symptoms.

If you do have symptoms (high temperature, new / persistent cough, loss of taste or smell) book at test through www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.
