‘Activate’ helping children to get moving this summer

by Laura Johnston

Children across the country are being inspired to move more this summer, with the launch of a new animated series Activate.

The series is made up of short, five-minute episodes each featuring an animated Joe Wicks, alongside original characters known as the Activators, and upbeat music.

Every episode offers a burst of movement through fun, accessible content that can be easily integrated into your day, whether at home, school, summer clubs or on the go – getting children moving over the summer and beyond.

Each Activator brings their own unique spark, like Blue, who reminds kids to stay hydrated, Green, who shows off football skills, and Turquoise, who gets the party started. Together, they make movement feel personal, playful, and inclusive – so every child can find a character to connect with.

At a time when many parents are looking for ways to keeping their kids entertained and active over the holidays, Activate aims to turn screen time into active time and boost children’s physical and mental health – over the summer holidays and beyond.

Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Cabinet Member for Health, said:

‘Activate’ is a great initiative, helping to turn screen time into active time and boost children’s physical and mental health.

“It’s short, five-minute bursts of movement also make it really easy for families, schools and children’s summer clubs to incorporate active time into daily routines.”

The series has been co-created by fitness coach, Joe Wicks MBE, and the team behind ‘Hey Duggee’ (Studio AKA) and is backed by the government as part of a new partnership to reach schools and families across the country.

Joe Wicks said:

“Activate is designed to make movement fun and inclusive for every child, with short, high-energy workouts that fit into everyday life. These can be enjoyed in the living room, the garden, in the classroom, or anywhere else!

“As a dad, I know how important it is to make movement something kids enjoy, not something they have to do. That’s exactly what Activate is all about so I hope it can be a real support for busy families, this summer and beyond.”

The first episodes are available now on The Body Coach YouTube channel, with new episodes out weekly over the summer.
