Action will be taken against anti-social and criminal behaviour

by Jonathan Kearney

Action will be taken against anyone who carries out anti-social (ASB) and criminal behaviour in Knowsley’s town centres and across the borough.

Knowsley’s ‘No More ASB’ message has been reiterated following an incident in Halewood earlier this month.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to a local retailer in Halewood Shopping Centre on the evening of Sunday 15 April, following reports of a disturbance and threats being made to a staff member. Damage was also reportedly caused to the premises.

A 15-year-old male from Speke was arrested on suspicion of Criminal damage; Section 4 public order; Threats to kill; and Possession of a bladed article. He has been conditionally bailed, whilst the investigation continues. One of those bail conditions is an exclusion from the Halewood area.

Knowsley Superintendent Karl Baldwin said: “We understand the distress, fear and inconvenience that anti-social, threatening and violent behaviour causes in our communities.

“I want to assure those who live, work and visit the area that we will investigate all such reports and take the appropriate action to protect residents and businesses alike.

“Anti-social behaviour and low-level criminality are not minor issues. Those that commit such acts, regardless of their age, bring misery to many and leave our community feeling less safe. Together, with our partners, we will hold those responsible accountable.

“If there is anyone locally who saw this incident or has any information about other anti-social behaviour, come forward and we will take action.

“Please be mindful that this a live investigation and refrain from posting any comments which could jeopardise our ongoing work. Please pass any information through officers who patrol the area, or via @MerPolCC, 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
