Do you know the signs of stroke? Acting F.A.S.T could help you save your own or someone else’s life.
F.A.S.T. – Face, Arms, Speech, Time – is a simple test to help you identify the most common signs of a stroke. If you notice any single one of the signs it’s important to act quickly by calling 999.
- Face – has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
- Arms – can they raise both arms and keep them there?
- Speech – is their speech slurred?
- Time to call 999
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Wellbeing and Customer Services, said:
“It is so important we act FAST as the sooner somebody who is having a stroke gets urgent medical attention, the better chances of a good recovery.
“If you notice any single one of the signs of stroke, call 999.”
When someone suffers a stroke, the blood supply to part of the brain cuts off. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention as every minute is vital. That is why calling 999 is so crucial.
An ambulance can give stroke patients those extra precious minutes, as not only will treatment be faster, but patients will be taken to the nearest hospital for immediate specialist treatment.
