Primary School offer day: What you need to know

by Gemma Melling

Tuesday, 16 April 2024 is primary school offer day.

If you live in Knowsley and applied by the closing date (15 January) for a place at primary school for your child to start in September, you should find out what school place they have been offered on 16 April.

How will I be told which school place my child has been given?

If you applied online using the Knowsley application portal, you should get an email sometime after midnight on Tuesday 16 April which will confirm your offer and other useful information.

If you haven’t received an email, you can log into the parent portal to see which school has been allocated.

If you applied using a paper application, an offer letter will be posted to you on 16 April (but if you provided an email address on your application please also check your email account for communication).

I have not had an email or letter. What should I do?

Check your spam and junk email folders, or log into the parent portal to see what school has been allocated to your child.

If you applied by paper application without providing an email, your offer will be sent by post and may take a few days to arrive (Royal Mail delivery timeframes apply).

If you still cannot access your allocation result, contact the school admissions team.

I’m happy with the offer, do I need to do anything else?

You do not need to formally accept the place via the local authority as it is expected you will be accepting the place.

The school will have your child’s details and they will be in contact with you directly with more information. They will confirm if any other information is required from you.

I am not happy with the place my child has been allocated. What should I do?

If your child has not been offered a place in your school/s of preferences, your allocation email/letter will provide more information about the waiting list and appeal process.

If you are not satisfied with the current school offer you have been made, it is possible to request a change by making a revised application – more information about how to do this can be found on the Knowsley website at: Apply for a school place | Knowsley Council

How do I appeal for a school that I have been refused a place at?  Who should I contact?

Everyone is entitled to appeal against the refusal of a place at a school of preference if they wish to do so. However, the procedures for lodging an appeal may vary between schools, so it depends which school/s you want to appeal for.

Your allocation email/letter will have more information about how to request an appeal and who to contact, there is also information on the Knowsley website at Appealing for a school place | Knowsley Council

If you have been refused a place at a school that is in another local authority area, you will need to ask that local authority for details of the correct appeal process for the school.

I’m trying to contact the school admissions team but can’t get through by telephone/have not had a reply to my email

The school admissions team receive a large volume of emails and telephone calls following national offer day.  If you have trouble contacting an officer by telephone, there is a facility to leave a voicemail. Voicemails and emails are regularly monitored, and a member of the team will contact you as soon as possible and within 5 working days.

If you are emailing the team, or leaving a voicemail, please provide your child’s name and date of birth and the nature of the enquiry as this will help us to respond to you more effectively.

Please do not send multiple emails in relation to the same query; this can lead to confusion and potentially create delay in response time to other customers. You should receive an automated response to confirm your email has been received so please be assured the team will respond to you as soon as possible.

If you have not had a response to your email/voicemail within five working days, please do make further contact.
