14 local organisations set to benefit from the Kirkby Community Fund

by Gemma Melling

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board has today announced the names of 14 local organisations that will benefit from more than £132,000 investment thanks to the new Kirkby Neighbourhood Board Community Fund.

Established by the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board (which is supported by the Government’s Pride in Place programme) the fund attracted more than 26 applications from a wide range of local groups and organisations. After a rigorous evaluation process the names of 14 successful applicants has now been announced. They are:

  • Altru Creative Education
  • Capacity for Change CIC
  • FC Kirkby
  • Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum
  • Jus Kidz
  • Kids Activities and Bootcamps (KABS) CIC
  • Me2U CIC
  • Merseyside Housing & Debt Advice Centre CIC
  • Millbrook Millenium Green Trust
  • Mind Connect Mental Health CIC
  • Sight and Mind CIC
  • Southdene Community Association
  • Sports Alive North West
  • The Eco Therapy Garden

Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of the Neighbourhood Board said: “It was great to receive so many high-quality and well thought out applications but that definitely made it an incredibly tough job to decide which initiatives should benefit from the fund, this time around. We established a dedicated review panel of independent Board members to oversee this work and to feedback their recommendations for final approval.

“The successful projects offer a diverse range of initiatives across the whole Kirkby patch. From support to older people experiencing dementia to activities for children and young people, debt advice to infrastructure improvements at some of our much-loved community facilities.

“What was abundantly clear – and what I already knew – is that there are so many people and organisations doing amazing work in Kirkby and with fantastic ideas about how they can contribute to making Kirkby a better place for its residents. Collectively they are having such an impact on our communities, and I look forward to seeing how our fund makes a positive contribution to that crucial work.”

The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board Community Fund was launched in July 2026. There were two elements to the fund – capital funding (for one off large purchases or investment) or revenue funding (for day to day running costs) – and applicants could apply for either or both. A total of £110,000 was available as capital funding and £22,000 available for revenue applications.

All those applying were specifically asked to demonstrate how their proposals support the local priorities set out in the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board Regeneration and Investment plan, how they could evidence community need and outcomes and how they demonstrate value for money and overall benefit to local residents.

More information about the individual projects and the groups behind them will be shared on the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board website soon.
